User Story Workflow - Work Mode

I have two projects and work boards behaving differently -

In the first board, the user stories in work mode can be moved into different columns based on the workflow along with the sub tasks. This is my prefered functionality becasue we want to track the status (state) of the stories throughout the sprint.

In the second board, the story is "spread" across the columns and the subtasks can move between the colomns. I cannot figure out how to set this up like the first board. I think i accidently got the behavioue i want in the first board and cannot do it in the second.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check your swimlanes on both board. I'm suspecting the first board maybe is using "No swimlanes" while the second is using "Stories" as the swimlane. See Configuring Swimlanes.
