Using outside db tables to populate combo boxes(selections/picklists)

How can I populate a drop down box with values from an outside db table?

I want to have a field for selecting a part number, but the list is way too long to input each one individually, so i would like to have JIRA pull the values for the custom field from somewhere else. The tables will be on the same server (say oracle) as where the JIRA tables will be.

Exactly what I need, but doesnt look like it is supported in 5.1.4

I expect it will soon - it's one of the better maintained plugins out there!
