Using the free jira edition, trying to change issues' issue type from story to epic.

The field, issue type, is not present on story edit screen.

I can easily do this in the paid version I use at work...

Hello @Warren Goldman on the paid version both fields might be using the same set of screens and workflow. Try the move option instead and you should be able to change the issue type.
