View workflow - provide a custom drawing

JIRA allows to show the workflow associated to a particular issue. When this workflow gets complex, it is very difficult to create a drawing which is clear & concise.

Is there a way to replace this drawing with a custom drawing ?
The function to highlight current status is not required.

That is not a plugin point, but I am guessing that you can have your own servlet and override this path - plugins/servlet/workflow/thumbnail/getThumbnail and provide an own drawing of the workflow.
