Want to change name status on workflow. but the new name status existed and used in the workflow

Febrilia Putri Inzani September 1, 2024

I want to change the name status on workflow from 'Open ticket' to 'To Do'. but, the error display is 'the status already existed and used in other workflow.' so, I need to move all the tickets(?) in the project but i don't know steps how to do from copy workflow, edit workflow, even move the ticket. should i move ALL of the ticket or only that one specific status which i want to change? Thank you

Hi @Febrilia Putri Inzani ,

Welcome to the community!

Firstly are you working in a "Company managed project" or "Team managed project"?

Hi Febrilia - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Do NOT change the name of the Status in the Workflow - that will change the name of that Status in ALL workflows!! You need to add the new status to your workflow and modify the transitions to use the new status instead of the existing one.

Hi Febrilia,

You can try the following:

1.Create or Copy Workflow: If you don't already have a custom workflow for your project, you'll need to create a copy of the current workflow. This ensures that any changes you make do not affect other projects that might be using the same workflow.

2.Edit Workflow: Edit the newly created workflow to replace the status "Open ticket" with "To Do" (don't rename the status)

3.Associate the New Workflow with Your Project: Once the workflow is updated, associate this new workflow with your project. This typically involves navigating to the project settings and selecting "Workflows", then assigning the new workflow to the project's issue types.

4.Move the Tickets: If you want to avoid conflicts, you'll need to transition all tickets currently in the "Open ticket" status to the new status "To Do".

Hope this helps you.

Hi Cristian,

Note that the step 4 is not needed.

When you publish a workflow that is not containing the status "Open ticket" then the publish process will allow the admin to map any existing issues in status "Open ticket" to any of the statuses that exist in the workflow that is published.

all the best

Lisa
