Watchers added with automation are not receiving notifications

I have an automation set up as following in a team managed project.

  • Create three subtask tickets when an issue ticket (story) is created, and add 11 watchers to each subtask ticket

The automation works, but the watchers are not receiving any notifications when the subtask tickets are updated. User can only receive notification when he/she is mentioned in the comments.

Is there a workaround or way to fix this?
The notification settings are fine; "all watchers" are included in all events.

Hi there, can you confirm that the desired Watchers are added to all sub-tasks that you are creating with this Jira Automation? Isn't that the case just for the Parent task?

I did a few tests, perhaps the results can be helpful in your case, too.

  1. This Jira Automation adds Watchers only to the Parent ticket:

So it results in Parent getting the desired Watcher, but Child tickets do not get the update:

  2. This Jira Automation adds Watchers to all created sub-tasks:

So it results in Parent NOT getting any extra Watcher, and all Child tickets get defined Watcher(s):

If that doesn't solve your problem, you could also try to add an extra automated comment that mentions each "Watcher" user in those sub-tickets, just to check if any notification reaches them, but this is probably an overkill, and good just for testing.

Also, please share the automation configuration you have right now, so it is a bit easier to troubleshoot. Cheers & Good luck!

Hi @kana_okuma -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

For a question like this, context is important for the community to help.  Please post the following:

  • an image of your complete automation rule,
  • images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches,
  • an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution, and
  • an image showing one of the created subtasks indicating the rule actually added the watchers.

Kind regards,
Bill
