This question is in reference to Atlassian Developer Documentation: Creating a Custom Release Notes Template Containing Release Comments

We are using atlassian hosted jira for us (company.jira.com). Can we modify the template to see an additional field in the release page?

No, you can't modify the code on Cloud.

So what is the way to show an additional custom filed added under issues in the "Releases" dashboard. This is required for our project operations and effective release.

The way to do it is to modify the code to add the fields. 

But you can't do that on Cloud (yet)
