What are steps for migrating a team managed project to a company managed project?

Eri_Ito February 17, 2023

Hi Teams,

There is a request that an exsiting team managed project should be migrated to be a company managed one.

To deal with the request, I think I should create a new company managed project, and created workflow as same as TMP's , And I can't use the custom fields what I created in TMP, I should created new custom fields in CMP. That means I can not copy or reuse workflow and custom fields of TMP. I should created all new those items.

After configuration of new CMP, I should export all issues from exsiting TMP and import these issues to the new CMP.

Would you please confirm if I understand and act correctly?

Thanks and Regards,

Eri

Yes, you have understood and acted correctly. You will need to recreate your custom fields in your new company-managed project, and when you move requests to the company-managed project, Jira will retain most of your request's global custom field values (except the version fields). However, these are not mapped to your company-managed project's fields, so when migrated they will appear blank. The data is recoverable if you move the issues back to the team-managed projects they came from.

Hi @Eri_Ito

If you want to make the process a bit easier you can use our Deep Clone for Jira marketplace app.
Deep Clone is able to migrate issues between team-managed and company-managed projects, and even Jira instances.
