What are the best requirements and test case management tools for JIRA Next Gen?

Alicia Power November 5, 2020

I'm looking for something like qTest functionality, but qTest does not seem to work with JIRA Next Gen.

I think to answer this you may want to first consider why you are using Next Gen (or why you are adamant about sticking to it). Next Gen is simply a cleaner/simpler UI, which essentially translates to the same thing as Classic but with less options.

My organization has used X-Ray and it's quite good. It's hierarchy and reporting capability are excellent.

R4J is also excellent and has the added bonus of using all standard jira issue types and link types. It's very light on the reporting side currently but they are planning to develop that functionality further.

If you must stick to Next Gen, this page appears to allude to Zephyr, X-Ray, and TM4J as being compatible. https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/next-gen

Thank you for your input. In regards to my use of Next Gen, I was not given a choice, but I do have a voice in the decision about the Test Management/Requirements Management tool that is chosen.

I have started evaluating Qmetry. Its a robust tool that may have the features that I think we need.

Hi @Alicia Power

You can try AIO Tests for Jira also as part of your evaluation.
It works well with Next Gen projects.

We are one of the few test management tools (along with TM4J - now Zephyr Scale) that do not treat test entities like cases, executions, cycles, runs, etc. as Jira issues. This approach helps us provide a more seamless and intuitive way of test management.

The app is simple and straightforward to use and provides all the key functionalities of a test case management tool. I am listing

Key features of the app are listed below

  • easy creation and import/export of test cases
  • linking to Requirements (Jira stories)
  • bulk edit of cases and steps
  • 360o view of test cases
  • organizing in Folders and Sets
  • efficient execution with analytical view of multiple test executions
  • easy recording of run defects and artifacts
  • inbuilt traceability and execution reports
  • JUnit and TestNG integration
