In order to identity what needs to be tested and critical changes to installation, we want to know what has changed in Jira since the current installation, 9.5.1.

Hi @Sandhiya P welcome to the community.

We just did this same upgrade with no pains.
Just make sure you update any plugins before you do.

One notable issue is the reset of the gadgets / macros with Confluence -> this is no longer supported as the gadget feed has been removed.

Just follow the steps for upgrading, make sure you backup everything.
Dark mode is awesome but limited.

Hi @Sandhiya P, welcome to the community.

There's too much work done on Jira to list in a community post. You can see release notes for all Jira Data Center releases here.

Hi @Sandhiya P ,

welcome to the Community. As you're not only skipping a lot of versions, but also moving from one major version to another, there could be various things that you should have a look at.
As this depends heavily on your customizations (self-developed apps, scripts working with the internal Java as well as the REST API, things that directly interact with the database or the user interface), it's hard to give a full answer to your individual situation.

Because of this, I would suggest a general approach that I usually take:

  1. The Upgrade Matrix offers an overview of all Jira Versions down to 7.5 with each of their key improvements.
  2. From there, access and read through the release notes of each version between 9.5 and 10.3 (including).
  3. Next to the Release Note, you'll find the Upgrade Notes for each version. (under the same parent page).

While doing this, you should note key changes and information and collect them somewhere (e.g. on a Confluence page). When you're done with all of the notes, you can use these gathered points to create your Upgrade plan that's individual to your situation and usage of Jira.

If this feels overwhelming, it could also be a good choice to reach out to a/multiple partners for support. It's a common project for them to upgrade Jira across versions.

I hope this helps!

Greetings
Philipp
