What happens to external vendor users when migrating over to SSO internally?

We currently have a few JIRA instances on the cloud. In efforts to consolidate under one roof we discovered an external vendor.  Once we have implemented the SSO, will the external vendors be impacted?

It is possible to configure SSO such that both regular employees and external vendors can login to Jira / Confluence. Would you like the external vendor to login traditionally with username and password, or should they also utilize SSO?

Could you describe your environment and SSO solution a bit more?
