What is the best way to migrate from Trac 0.11.7 to Jira?

Pradeep Pamidipalli January 12, 2012

Hi,

Apart from the importer plugin available in Jira, are there any other ways to migrate from Trac to Jira? Am using postgresql as a DB for Trac.

Thanks,

Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

I am not 100% sure but I think 2G is the limit here, and .zip is the only accepted format for the importer. Given your size, you will probably need to look at to have some 3rd party tool/script for import. Also, if you want to preserve things such as change histories from Trac, you will probably have to do it separately too.

We are currently working on a Trac to JIRA migration and we are using a combination of the import tool (to get the bulk done) and have a number of scripts to "fix up" and move over the remaining data that are not covered or supported by the importer (certain custom field types do not work for example).

Thanks Patrick, can you please keep me posted if we have any sort of scripts ready in this regard.

Thanks,

Pradeep

Don't you think that if someone has gone to the trouble of writing an importer specifically for Trac, that that would be the best way?

Why don't you rephrase your question and explain why you think it might not be the best way, or what problems you're having.

Ok. Here is the reason why am looking for an alternative:

When am trying to import the actual trac data which is of 2.8GB, the importer plugin does not allow me to ponit a file which is more than 2GB. I have the following questions in this regard:

Q1. Is there a way to make the importer plugin accept of file of size more than 2GB?

Q2. Will the importer plugin accept a file other than a .Zip file for import?

My trac folder has the attachments folder which is the one causing the problem. The attachments folder is 2.7GB in size.

Q3. Is there a way to import my attachments of trac seperatly in pieces from importer?

Thanks,

Pradeep

But you have already asked that in a separate question.

Yes, I felt I have refrased my previous question. It would be great if we have an option to make importer accept a file more than 2GB.
