When claiming a domain, are you able to set the Atlassian ID to their previous one?

Michelle Grimes June 12, 2025

I have verified a domain for Atlassian Guard and downloaded the csv file with the associated accounts. I have also downloaded our current user list to see who could be missing from the domain one.

Some of our users match on both as they were set up with the domain we now want to use. The domain list has given new ID's for those who are active with their old domain emails, can you change the ID associated so that the transition doesn't reset assigned work and time spent for the sprint?

Hi @Michelle Grimes ,

Manually/from end-user perspective - no. You cannot retain these user IDs or merge accounts in any way. There's a feature request related to that, though: ID-240: Ability to merge Atlassian accounts to a single account with secondary emails

Now, related to this specific situation you have at the moment, you can reach out to Atlassian Support and they can, potentially, make these mergers for you, or suggest some alternative paths you could use to do so.

User management, auto-claiming and changing emails, IdP connections and such can be a bit tricky, so it's always suggested to test (if possible) on some smaller batch of accounts to see how any config. changes will reflect in the system.

Cheers,
Tobi
