When the lower bug ends, the upper epic status changes

ChangSoo Yoon August 9, 2023

A ticket : Epic

B ticket : Bug (Issued from A ticket)

In case of above

I want to change the status of the parent epic when the bug is finished.

However, if you create a rule like the screenshot, the rule just passes without any update.

Hello @ChangSoo Yoon

Welcome to Atlassian Community.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to create a rule such that when child Bug is marked as completed, the associated parent "Epic" transitions into the "Done" status as well.

Trigger: When Issue Transitioned

Branch: For Epic (parent)

Condition: If the Epic status is not Done already, then

Action: Transition Epic to the required status

Please let me know if this helps.

the rules you sent The rules I made are the same.

However, the status did not change, so I tested it by adding comments.

The parent issue doesn't work at all.

if you  Need to know epic, bug details setting?

Hi @ChangSoo Yoon

The automation template library has kind of the default rule setup for this action.

See the rule: "When all stories are completed → then close epic"

I you want the action only for the Epic, you can adjust the rule to your needs

I did a test,

But the change of the sub-issue that fires the trigger is successful (comment added)

Changes to the parent issue are still ignored (comment added)

Hi @ChangSoo Yoon

Can you have a look at the workflow used by the Epic.

If there is a transition screen on the transition you want to execute by the automation, the transition looks successfull, but won't trigger.
