When we create an issue hierarchy, does it reflect to all projects in the Jira?

We have three individual projects, SW, HW etc. how to define the issue hierarchy to these projects individually?

Hi @Sree Latha Chopparapu

welcome to the community!

As already mentioned, Jira Premium's built-in hierarchy is global per site.

If you would like to implement project-level issue hierarchies, you'll likely want to use one of the hierarchy-focused apps from the Atlassian Marketplace. As an example, your use case should be easy to do using the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a range of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies. These issue hierarchies can be defined based on Jira's built-in parent/child relationships (like epic/story, or story/sub-task), and/or based on issue links. You can have multiple hierarchies per sheet, and easily switch between them, like so:

 various-parents.gif

(Note how depending on your configuration, is WORK-142 is either a child of OKR-1, or a child of Initiative WORK-161. WORK-142 is connected to both of them via issue links.)

As mentioned above, there may be other apps that can help with that, too. You may already know that you can trial any app for free for 1 month, and depending on the size of your size, it may be free forever. So if an app is an option for your, perhaps try a few and see which works best for you.

Hope this helps,

Best,

Hannes

Hi @Sree Latha Chopparapu

Welcome to the coomunity !!

You can use Issue Links to create a custom Hierarchy which will not impact your current project structure. If you would be interested in an add-on for this need, you can try out our plugin.

Issue Hierarchy

The app shows your issue hierarchy in a tree view. The app can help you easily Sum up values (time tracking/story point/custom numeric fields) to see overall progress for your Issues at each parent level. Also it provides excel like editing for all the values right on the report and see real time progress updates.

Do give it a try.

(Disclaimer: I work on RVS, the vendor for this app)
