Which edition of JDK should you choose between 32bit and 64bit

Hi there,

We are trying to install JIRA and for that preparation we first need to install JDK.

Our OS is Windows server 64bit, and for this OS should we use 32bit JDK or 64bit?

We appreciate your advice.

Go for 64 bit. Not problem I have noticed with it and it helps later when you need to allocate more memory.

Do you happen to know which edition of JRE is bundled with JIRA windows installer?

If it's possible we'd like to use same edition for JDK.

The only downside I know is that when your instance grows larger and larger, you will need to allocate more RAM. With 32-bit JDK, you won't be able to allocate more than 1.5G and hence you will end up switching to 64 bit.

The document below states 64bit JDK requires more memory than 32bit JDK.

On the other hand, is there any downside for using 32bit JDK?
