Why are priorities different between users in Team-Managed Jira projects?

Devin McCants August 13, 2021

As a Jira Admin, I have users reaching out asking why priority colors are different for each user. Here is a screenshot of two different views:

Well that is rather interesting. Let me ask the stupid question here - you're sure that these are from the same Jira instance? AFAIK, and how it works for me, all priorities are the same for all projects whether TMP or CMP. These are define under administration settings-issues-priorities.

Also, are you sure you are on Cloud?  (Server has project priority schemes which would allow this)

Yes, the screenshots are from the same Jira instance and my organization in using the Cloud.

Scratching my head. What shows under administration settings-issues-priorities? Is it possible that you have an addon app influencing this?

No add-on app influencing this.

I can only find two ways to do this in Cloud -

Take one screenshot, edit the list of priorities, then take the second screenshot.  If you went back to take the first one again, you'll find the list has changed.

Your priority list contains all the options, but your users have installed a browser app that enables them to hide some from the list

I'd like to see the list of priorities you have in admin as well!

Maybe @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- has another thought. Otherwise check with Atlassian Support.

Hi @Devin McCants

testing in my Cloud instance and using browser "Firefox" I can see that I can rightclick on one priority icon when being on the "Create Issue" screen - and select "open image in a new tab".

This at least gives the possibility to state the path of the icon used while browser open that priority icon in a new tab.

In my case:

https://mysitename.atlassian.net/images/icons/priorities/highest.svg

I compared the displayed image (in the new tab) with that one in the list displayed and all is okay (identic).

Could you probably do the same and see if the browser then loads a different graphic from the one displayed in the list for priorities? If so, that would suggest there is some caching problem with the browser(s) going on.

If not this would mean there is a different URL called. While not being able to imagine how this should work you would see it in URL of new tab, f.e.

https://mysitename.atlassian.net/images/icons/priorities/highest-fantasy.svg

Too curious what the reason might be - please update us with any finding!

Cheers,
Daniel
