I've just begus using Jira. But why is it so difficult to add team members to a new project, in this case for a new team that spand two companies. Do all team members, including those from our new client, first need to register as Atlassian users before they can be added by us to a project team ... ?
Ideally, you would invite users and add them to the project, then the users can complete the registration at their own time. You do not have to wait for the users to register to be able to add them.
To facillitate the invitation process, take a look at this link : https://confluence.atlassian.com/migrationkb/bulk-create-users-in-atlassian-cloud-ui-using-user-invite-1267336035.html
Or better yet, either use Atlassian Guard to automatically provision users from an identity provider if available (such as Azure Entra ID/AD).
If your users have google or microsoft account, invite them as you'd normally do or as presented in the link before and they'll just use their existing accounts to log in.
Let me know if this helps and if you have more questions.
It is not that difficult if you are giving permission of project to user via Groups then you can add user in all projects in one step while sending them invite add the user in the relevant group and the relevant group already has the access of those projects.

Hello @Andrew Boughton
Great question! Yes, in order to add team members to a Jira project, they do need to be registered as Atlassian users first. This includes your client’s team members, as they'll need to have their own Atlassian accounts to access the project. Once they've registered, you can easily add them to the project by going to the project settings and inviting them via their email addresses.
Thanks,
