Word Wrap in Jira ticket description and comments

Hello, I cannot find the answer anywhere online so asking here.

In Jira ticket both description and code blocks in the comments, I would like to have the ability to either;

1 - word wrap the text in the code block

2 - be able to adjust the width of the section containing comments, so that the section containing the checklist is reduced.

Is there any tool available to do this?

Hi @Swapna Sarangdhar, Unfortunately it is not currently possible to wrap code in a code block, you can only scroll horizontally. There is this feature request open for this issue, so I recommend voting for/watching this. It was however created in 2021 and it is still in Gathering Interest so I wouldn't expect it to be implemented any time soon!

And as @G subramanyam said, comments and regular text in the description field will be wrapped to fit the screen

Thank you @Callum Carlile _Automation Consultants_ yes I did see that feature request but as it was so old I assumed it was dead in the water!  I'll vote for it and try and raise some heat.. thank you.

@Swapna Sarangdhar No worries! Yeah there are definitely some pretty old feature requests on Atlassian's backlog...

Hi, I would like to have both horizontally and vertically.

Today I wanted to paste this text into Comments but the result was not the same as from GoLang editor

func main() {
const jsonStream = `
[
{"Device_ref": "10", "Measurement_name": "BB", "Value":"0", "Timestamp":"1639646400"},
{"Device_ref": "11", "Measurement_name": "BB", "Value":"0", "Timestamp":"1639646400"},
{"Device_ref": "12", "Measurement_name": "BB", "Value":"0", "Timestamp":"1639646400"},
{"Device_ref": "13", "Measurement_name": "BB", "Value":"0", "Timestamp":"1639646400"},
{"Device_ref": "14", "Measurement_name": "BB", "Value":"0", "Timestamp":"1639646400"}
]
`

These lines fit here but not in the Jira Comment.

Instead I had to attach the file to the Jira Ticket.

Would be nice if the text editor of Comments could be larger horizontaly.

Word wrapping is very much needed, see any editor like nodepad++ which has this feature for ages.

I have to copy the content in notepad++ to look properly

I don't understand how this can be an issue in 2022. Atlassian being Atlassian.

Hey all - I've been on this website and they have a VERY cool feature which would be amazing if you could add to Jira - when you hover over the code block it widens the code block to the size of the browser (not sure what it does if the code goes beyond this however)

https://gohugo.io/templates/introduction/#parentheses-can-be-used-to-group-items-together

when you hover away, it returns to its original size.

Little things like this make us very happy.

Hi @Swapna Sarangdhar welcome to the Atlassian community.

As far as I know, the text will wrap both in the description and comment fields! Screen shot attached.

I'm not sure if we have permissions to adjust the width of the fields.

Please ping your reply along with screen shot if my understanding is incorrect.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

Thank you @G subramanyam - I can see that normal text will indeed wrap OK however it is the text within a code block that I cannot see how to wrap.

E.g. in the following screenshot;

Screenshot 2021-05-13 at 14.46.20.png

The code block text to the right is hidden.  Not only this, but I cannot increase the width of the central column, I can only increase the browser window but the column expands up to a certain width (still too small to see the full text) and does not increase beyond this width no matter how wide you stretch the browser;

Screenshot 2021-05-13 at 14.48.27.png

In terms of scrollbar at the bottom, yes there is one, but I can only get it to appear if I highlight some text and drag the highlight to the right, forcing the text to pan right.  However as the scrollbar is only visible when dragging right/left I can never get to it.

Makes for a very frustrating experience I'm sorry to say.

Thanks for any relief you can provide!
