This morning I logged in to find that toggling between Workflows is no longer an available option in the Board view. I now see all the statuses and ticket types in the board. This is the case in all the jira projects I manage.

In project settings -> work types -> edit workflow, the workflows have not been changed. Individual workflows still exist for each issue type, but the option to switch between them in Board view is gone.

What setting was changed and how do I re-enable Workflow options in the Board?

Hello @Denver Durham

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

The feature to toggle the display of issues based on workflow was available only in Business type projects. All other project type boards would show issues for all workflows at once.

Today Atlassian posted that they deployed an experimental change so that Business projects will also display issues from all workflows at once. Refer to

See all workflows and map status columns in business project boards

Thank you for the resource. This update is terribly disruptive to all of our services teams, across at least eight different jira projects. Everything that I have built to manage our team workflows and align jira work types and statuses to various operator SOPs is disrupted by this change. The board view is now confusing and obtuse to use, whereas before it made perfect sense. Please provide an admin option to enable workflows the way it was before.

Hello @Denver Durham

This is a user community. We are (mostly) not members of the Atlassian team and can't directly change the product.

As stated in the link I provided, Atlassian is welcoming feedback on the change via two methods; commenting on that article or contacting Atlassian directly (link for that on the article).

Additionally they mentioned it was released as an "experiment". Experiment releases can be disabled by Organization Admins in Enterprise plans per

https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/manage-atlassian-experiments/

Your tags indicate you are on a Premium plan. Youay be able to get Atlassian to disable the experiment for you if you contact their support team.

Organization and Product Admins can open support case at

Hello @Denver Durham ,

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community :)

The behaviour you are seeing is the result of the recent changes introduced by our development team, which aims to bridge the experience gap between business boards and software boards.

Earlier, as you mentioned, when any business project had multiple workflows for different work item types, users used to get an option to select the required workflow and accordingly the statuses and workitems showed on the board. For example, let’s say a project has two work item types, Task and Bug, each with its own workflow:

  • Task (W1): To Do → In Progress → Done
  • Bug (W2): To Do → In Progress → In Review → Done

If a Bug is in the In Review status, it won’t appear on the board if the board is set up to display only the Task workflow (W1). This is because only statuses from the selected workflow are mapped to the board, causing items from other workflows to be hidden, even though they are visible in views like the List View.

This limitation has led to confusion, as users are unable to get a complete view of all ongoing work on the board and led to confusion when trying to locate specific work items, as they are accessible in other core project views, such as the list view, but not on the board itself. As a result, they can't accurately reflect their team's actual workflow, especially in scenarios involving multiple issue types with different workflows.

We’ve received several user requests and complaints around this gap, highlighting the need to support multiple workflows within a single Business project board to improve visibility and workflow representation, and you can view the request here: JWMCLOUD-123: Support JWM board to display all the statuses from multiple workflows

With this new change, we will deliver two new functionalities to Business project board users.

  1. Display work items from all workflows in single board
  2. Enable users to manage project progress better by mapping multiple statuses to columns

Users will get a holistic board view to reflect users’ actual company workflows, causing less confusion in locating the actual work item.

Thank you!
