changing priority values

Over time we have built up a long list of possible Priority values.  I'd like to reduce this back to the defaults.  if I do this in admin will JIRA ask me to map any issues with this Priority value to a different value?  i.e. bulk change the issues during the process of deleting the un-needed Priority.
