I created an organization by mistake and i am trying to delete it and i cannot. I followed what's stated here:
https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/delete-an-atlassian-organization/
and here:
https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/delete-your-organization/
but it's too much for me I get lost, every guide has few steps, each step has how to do link, the link has steps with different how to do links and I am going in circles.
I need simple and straightforward guide on how to delete organization I created accidently. Please!
Hello @amir kishk
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Is this something you are trying to do right after having created it? Or has it been around for a while?
To what products did you subscribe; Jira Confluence, Guard, ...?
Do you need to have a backup of the data from the products?
An Organization is created when you subscribe to a product. The first step to deleting an organization is to cancel all products you are subscribed to through that Organization.
There is a holding period when canceling subscriptions to give you time to reactivate them in case you canceled them by mistake. They remain active until the next Billing Date. After that the data is held for a period of time, again in case the subscription was canceled by mistake. So, you will not be able to immediately delete the Organization until those time periods have all expired.
There are additional steps to take concerning claimed domains, if those are part of your organization.
If you need to delete the product subscriptions and organization immediately you will have to contact Atlassian Licensing support (if you have only free products) at

Hello @amir kishk ,
Welcome to the Atlassian community!
NOTE - Important: You can only delete an organization if it does NOT have any products (like Jira, Confluence) or managed accounts.
If you're using Atlassian Access, you must cancel it first.
STEP 1: Check if You Can Delete It
Go to: admin.atlassian.com
Select the organization you want to delete.
On the left, click Settings > Details
If you see the “Delete organization” button at the bottom, you’re eligible to delete it.
If you don’t see it, you likely have:
A product (e.g., Jira/Confluence site) still linked
Managed user accounts
Active Atlassian Access subscription
STEP 2: Remove Products (if any)
In the left menu, click Products
If any Jira/Confluence cloud site is listed:
Click ... next to it → Select Delete
Follow prompts to delete the product/site first
🕐 It may take 15–30 minutes to fully delete
STEP 3: Remove Managed Accounts
Go to Directory → Managed accounts
If you see accounts listed here:
You’ll need to release them or verify your domain first, which gets complicated
💡 But if this organization was created by mistake and you're not using managed users, skip this step.
STEP 4: Cancel Atlassian Access (if active)
Go to admin.atlassian.com
Select the organization → Click Security → Atlassian Access
Click Billing → Manage subscriptions
Cancel the subscription (if it's active)
STEP 5: Delete the Organization
Once:
All products are removed
No managed users exist
Atlassian Access is canceled (if used)
Then:
Go to admin.atlassian.com
Select your organization
Go to Settings → Details
Scroll down → Click Delete organization
Confirm and you're done ✅
