I have a new GreenHopper OnDemand install, how do I get a story points marker in the Planning Board as shown in the overview video http://www.atlassian.com/software/greenhopper/overview at 0:33?
I know I don't have a history yet, but isn't there someway to indicate how many story points we want for our sprint?
I think I found it. There is something that explains how to set it up ( you'll want to add the "Story Points" Field ). It's a bit confusing once you do this though. Using the stats area and adding the number of points seems to be global and the identifier will move around based on where there numbers add up to. I was expecting to be able to drag that Story Point bar to different stories and have it reflaced what is above it. I also don't see how to do it so it's showing multiple sprints worth of points.
You can use markers for multiple sprints if you have a version hierarchy setup and a context that looks at the parent version (i.e. Mileston 4, a parent version which is comprised of two child versions, Iteration 1204 and Iteration 1205) . If you select the Version view from the planning board and the parent release, you should be able to view story points and markers across multiple sprints. Using a very simple example, it would look like this on the planning board
And from the side navigation bar that shows all the version information, you'd have a view that looks something like this:
In this case, Milestone 4 is your Release (parent) that contains two iterations (children) marked Iteration 1204 and Iteration 1205.
I'm not sure if you can use markers across multiple releases, but perhaps through some creative use of contexts and JQL you might be able to span multiple releases and show statistical markers. I haven't checked so don't quote me on that, but it may be worth investigating if it's something you're interested in.
Documentation on the planning board and using statistical markers that explains all of this in more detail is here and definitely worth a read:

I'm interested in this as well. It would be a great addition to our planning for sprints and releases.
I'm unsure of the greenhopper version but we are running Jira v4.0.1 #471.
