We are unable to configure gmail a pop or IMAP please help

Gmail can not be setup with just the basic interface in JIRA v4.4.x or previous versions. Here is the basic documenation, although for POP or IMAP it is mostly importing the certificate.
NOTE: There has been improvements in this specific are for v5.0+ of JIRA. If you are playing around with a release canidate via the EAP or you want to wait for the fix to be in the user interface you might want to wait. Here is the documentation on version 5.0RC3 regarding the new way of setting up Gmail.

So i want to configure our email ( hosted with GMAIL ) with JIRA online but when i am trying to configure pop or IMAP i am getting timeout error

I am using ondemand Version , the setting suggested are not applicable for Ondemand.

At the moment it isn't possible to connect Atlassian OnDemand with an external mail server, including gmail. You can check out our feature request for this at:
