we currently have two instances in Jira cloud:
one is instance A and the other one is instance B and they not have the same domain, We are looking to enable Single Sign-On (SSO) for Jira.
we would love to hear about how this can be work?
Furthermore, if setting up SSO for two instances is not feasible, what would be the best approach for merging the instances? Can the instance be backed up before the merger, and is there an option for recurring backups?
Also, how does the merger process work?
Does it involve transferring all the Automation and Assets?
Hi @Lior
For the SSO portion of your question, I can say that the identity provider should not have an issue with you having multiple instances. When it comes to exactly how Atlassian Guard will work in your use case, I am unsure, but you can always try the trial version of it to see how it ends up being in practice. If you discover that you need to create a trial for both of your instances in order to get SSO working, then you should probably look into merging your instances to ensure that you don't pay double.
I do not completely understand whether the instances are in the same organization or not, but hopefully one of the following pages is applicable to your situation regarding a potential merge:
When it comes to backups, according to Atlassian Cloud Security Shared Responsibilities (https://www.atlassian.com/whitepapers/cloud-security-shared-responsibilities), the creation of backups is the customer's responsibility. It seems like Atlassian's backup and restore solution (https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/what-is-the-backup-and-restore-solution/) is in Early Access Program and allows a single backup/restore per week so you might want to look into other solutions. As far as I know both HYCU (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/vendors/1224248) and Xopero (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/vendors/1220268/xopero-software) offer applications for automated backup/restore so it might be worth looking into.
