Hello @Shalini Banga

Thank you for reaching out to the Atlassian Community. I understand you're experiencing difficulties updating the "Project Type" dropdown for your project, even though you have administrative permissions to edit and configure workflows. Let's address this issue step-by-step.

Understanding Project Type in Jira:

  1. Project Type Definition: In Jira, the "Project Type" is a predefined setting that determines the default features and templates available for a project. It is typically set during project creation and is not designed to be changed afterward through the user interface.

  2. Limitations on Editing Project Type: Unlike other project settings, the "Project Type" is not a field that can be edited or have additional values added to it post-creation. This is because it fundamentally alters the structure and available features of the project.

Possible Solutions:

  • Create a New Project: If you need a different project type, consider creating a new project with the desired type. You can then migrate issues from the old project to the new one if necessary.

  • Custom Fields and Screens: If your goal is to add more values or options to a dropdown field within the project, you might be referring to a custom field rather than the "Project Type." In this case, you can:

    1. Navigate to Project settings.
    2. Select Screens and ensure the field you want to modify is included in the appropriate screen.
    3. Modify the field configuration to add or change dropdown values.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please provide more details about the specific field or dropdown you are trying to modify, and I will be happy to assist further.
