top menu bar for jira missing - replace with HORRIBLE side bar

The sidebar showed up in Jira - takes up too much screen space and doesn't give me what I need to effectively use it.  I would like the top menu back and side bar to go away.  I turned off lab assist, and now it seems to be permanent.  How do I get the top menu back?

You cannot revert back to the old UI, this change is permanent. This is from the email that Atlassian sent out to all org admins before the change:

The new navigation will be 100% enforced for all sites across Jira, Jira Product Discovery, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and Atlassian Home. Previously, users could still turn off the new navigation for themselves. Only a very small percentage have chosen to do so.

The rollout is now completed for all premium and enterprise sites, and we no longer have the ability to revert to the old UI, as stated in this article: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Navigation-Refresh-articles/New-navigation-for-Enterprise-and-Premium-plans/ba-p/3060398

I found an old post from 2020 that their was a top bar extension in google, but it is not available.
