why cant we use components to group issues in a project in an agile projects? what make epic more appriopriate to group issues/tickets in an agile projects than components?

The Group By (a.k.a Swimlanes) options can be used only for fields that may have only one value. Components is a field that can have multiple fields. Jira has no functionality currently to determine how to group issues based on a field that can have multiple values.

You are free to use the Components field to informally group issues by adding common values to that field. You can then base searches and filters on the values in that field.

Epic is a container for bigger issues that can be broken down into smaller tickets  based on agile configurations
