Reassign when the component filed changes

We are using the default assignee (component lead) for each of the defined components. However, this seems to work only when the component is assigned when the ticket is originally created.

If the component is set after the ticket was created, the ticket is not assigned to the default owner (the component lead)

Can I change this behavior so that the ticket gets assigned to the default owner when the component gets set later?

Hi @Daniel Salzer

Yes, it's possible to do via Automation - to expand on how to do this, you'll need to:

  • Be a Project Admin and...
  • Ensure the "Default Assignee" is set to Component Lead for each Component

Then...

  1. Go to Project Settings > Automation.
  2. Click the blue "Create Rule" button.
  3. For the Trigger, choose Field Value Changed. Choose to monitor the field "Components" and choose which issue operations for.
  4. Add an Action - Assign Issue. Assign the issue to "Automatic" to utilise Component Lead.
  5. Give the rule a name and publish it.

You can try automation for jira. Create a rule that triggers when the component field changes and set the assignee to “automatic”. This should do it.
