Receiving VCSConnector.MessageExecutor:thread-1 ERROR

Jira version 8.20.1

Receiving error DVCSCpmmectpr/MesageExecutor:thread-1 ERROR [c.a.j.p.d.service.message.MessageConsumer] Synchronization failed Could not get Changesets. from <repository> com.atlassian.jira.plugins.dvcs.exception.SourceControlException

The repository this error is referring to too appears to have hung synchronization process running.  We cannot start a full synchronization because of this soft synchronization that is running.  Is there a way to kill the hung sychronization?
