Rename Issue Types

Hi All,

Need your inputs on how to Rename the Issue Types in JIRA. We are currently have 2 different projects. Does this affects OLD tickets which were created already with old issue type names? what is the impact with this rename. 

Current  Issue Type --> NEW Issue Type

Task  --> Task

Bug  --> Bug

New Feature --> Data Fix

Improvement --> Enhancement

Epic --> New Dev

Hi... 

Yes; if you rename the issue type, since the label is only a pointer to a numeric value representing the issue type, every project in the instance that uses that issue type will have the new label.

If you want new issue types for JUST Project-1, you'd need to create the new issue types and add them to the project by associating them with the workflow that has the old issue types.

You cannot edit issue types from the project directly as they are global values in the system.

Thanks for your reply. I do have a doubt that by renaming the issue type will affect other project? Because when i select specific project it won't allow me to bring Edit option to change the Labels.

Path-1:

---------

Settings --> Issues --> Issue Types --> Edit 

For Project -1:

Settings --> Projects --> Project -1 --> Issue Types --> select "New Feature" --> it is taking me to Workflow/fields.  

Only using Path-1, i can edit labels? but i am sure it affects Project-2.

How to fix this.

There may be a new way to do this, but the only way I've ever tried to modify issue types is through the JIRA admin menu.
