We're using JIRA Agile for sprint planning and tracking. For us, Epics generally represent a discreet, usable feature that benefits our customers. Stories can range from micro-enhancements to a component of a larger feature. For tracking, we assign Story Points to Stories in hours.
Tracking and reporting for development team is working pretty well. Our Agile board has swimlanes for Epics and it's easy to see progress on each. In Plan mode, I really like how there's a bar which indicates Epic status but oddly this is not available anywhere else in Jira.
What's lacking for us is Current Sprint Status for the rest of the company: this report should show the status of each Epic for the current sprint. Status should derived from Story Points in To Do, In Dev or Completed. At this level, it's not important to expose individual stories, just the summation of Story Points from Stories by Epic.
Does anyone have one of these or a report that can show this?
I agree that Epic status gadget would be great and could be incorporated into confluence to report out to other groups that don't want to look at the agile boards
