Required field for transition screen for free

I understand that this can be achieved using the field required validator in Jira Software hosted on the Cloud. And this can be similarly achieved using the Jira Suite Utilities plugin but it is now commercial. Is there any way to achieve the mandatory field for transition screen without any paid features?

You need a app to achieve this.

When you search on Marketplace there are some free apps (Workflow Magic Box for example) you can use. See https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?hosting=server&moreFilters=free&query=validator
