Hi all :)
We are working in a 1-week sprints and naming them according to week numbers. At the beginning of every week I close the previous sprint and all the open jiras move to the next sprint.
Currently we are in sprint 47, and we have until sprint 53 and then the year ends and we need sprint 1 again, but I closed sprint 1 at the beginning of the current year.
Is there a way to "restart" the sprints that are already closed? Or do I need to create new sprints after the last one I have (sprint 53) and name them sprint 1, 2, etc.? This option might be problematic because I'll have close jiras from sprint 1 of 2021 and of sprint 1 of 2022, and I won't be able to tell the difference.
Hope my question is clear.
Thanks a lot!
Hi @Idan Klein
Rather than trying to alter the completed sprints, what do you think of changing your naming convention to fix the problem? Perhaps with the format "Sprint yyyy-ww", such as "Sprint 2022-01"
Kind regards,
Bill
Hi Bill,
Thank you for the suggestion, I might do that - I was just wondering if there's an easy way to re-activate the old sprints to save the time of opening new ones.
Do you know if I can change the names of already-closed sprints? So that I can match the old ones to the new format.
Best regards,
Idan

I am not aware of an easy way to do this with out-of-the-box Jira. There is a REST API method that would allow updating the name: https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/software/rest/api-group-sprint/#api-agile-1-0-sprint-sprintid-post
There might be a marketplace app to enable this, but that may not be worthwhile as you only wanted this to update the old sprints: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/

Thanks @Bill Sheboy !
I think I'll just leave the old sprints as they are and open new ones with the year as you suggested.
