Restrict groups to show in Group Picker custom field

Does anybody work on How to limit/restrict groups to show in the Group picker custom field?

Any suggestions will be very appreciated.

I am afraid it can't be done with Jira out of the box. I found this suggestion JRASERVER-61856 in the Jira public tracking that is gathering interest as of today.

One can certainly create a Custom Picker with a  groovy script using script runner instead of the Jira Group Picker.
