Hi Atlassian Community,
I recently came across the role of Atlassian Solution Architect and wanted to ask. My experience so far has been as an administrator for Jira, Confluence, Crowd, and Bitbucket, mainly handling configurations, upgrades, permissions, user support, customization and scripting, and automation.
Can an Atlassian Admin grow into an Atlassian Solution Architect role? If yes, what would be the right roadmap, mindset, and certifications to follow?
Your suggestions could be really helpful not just for me, but for many admins who want to grow further in the Atlassian ecosystem.
Thanks in advance
Tejas
HI Teja,
It will depend on the responsibilities of the role. Sometimes it varies from place to place. More importantly is stay up to date with the latest features and applications to help offer the most up to date solution fit to their needs.
Knowing both On-prem and Cloud solutions is helpful. There's not a whole lot of difference between the two roles. Both solve problems. In the SA role, you maybe engaging a lot with external customers vs internal customers. You may find yourself in situations where a solutions doesn't exist currently or its a very complex problem, you need to be able to adapt and look outside the box to address the solution. Sometimes you may need to look beyond and use a combination of tools along with Atlassian.
As long as you like problem solving and you are good with communicating with people of all levels(from engineering to C-suite), you are already off to a good start. Every problem will be different. You may not always have the answers right away but knowing how to find them will be more important.
All the best!
