Project Manager field should should be automatically populated per the project Lead -  using a post function on create transition I want to automatically populated the  Project Manager field per the the project Lead. 

could not find script examples.

We have an example of how to set the user picker here. The example shows you how to set different types of group of picket fields. In line 22 shows the syntax to set a single group picket fields specifying the user by the accountID. 

You can run the example script in the Script Console and you can use this to help you create the post function that you require. The example will help to guide you.
