Scheduled task with Jira and ContextProvider

I'm trying to perform some manipulations every minute and put the results to the context map of my context provider so that they can be used by velocity template. I have tried scheduling task via SAL, as explained in this tutorial

but it does not work. What is the most relevant solution for my case? I'm using Jira 8.13
