Scrum project clone

Kelly Peck November 6, 2020

We are setting up a scrum project to manage a financial management system upgrade.

Is there a way to set a template that can be used for future upgrades without having to re-establish the epics, story and tasks for each step for every upgrade project?

yes, but maybe not in the way you're thinking.

John is correct, you can do a lot of the work through automation- but if you're asking if you can make a clone of a whole project - yes, but you probably need an add-on to make that 'convenient'. You can manually do it, but you'll need to know pretty much everything about how to set up a project.

When you create a new project you're given the option to use the settings from an existing project, which might be enough for you in this case.  If you choose to do that, I suggest making a copy of the workflows, schemas, etc, and saving them in case you need to make a change to the current project.

If you want an "easy" solution, Deep Clone for Jira does this stuff for you, but you'll still need to be careful about changing shared workflows or schemas.

Update Nov 25, 2020

Good news! We've just released an update that enables you to clone projects including tasks, project configurations, components and versions with Deep Clone for Jira.

You access the new feature over the bulk clone dialog. Just select "Clone project ..." as target project.

Please note: Due to technical reasons this is only available for classic projects.

Hi @Kelly Peck , hi @Chris Buzon ,

Thank you for mentioning our Marketplace app, @Chris Buzon .

Currently you can not clone project configurations with Deep Clone for Jira.

Of course it is possible to Bulk Clone several Epics along with its tasks ans Subtasks very easily.

If you have questions or feedback about our app, don't hesitate to get in touch with our support.

Hi Kelly,

Yes, you can do that with Automation for Jira. You will need some type of trigger event, but when that happens you can automatically create multiple issues, including Epics.
