Did you mean:

Select project dropdown empty when creating new board.

Seamus Clancy September 17, 2021

I wish to create an Upsteam board to track upstream planning & refinement work.

I selected:

View All Boards -> Create Board -> Create a scrum board -> Board from existing project

But the project selection dropdown list is empty and I cannot proceed. Screenshot 2021-09-17 at 11.01.33.png

I tried creating a new project as a test and then creating a board again but still the list is empty. Also my existing project has 300 user stories created with test cases etc so starting again is not a good option. I tried entering the project name correctly, but it says the value is invalid and I cannot continue.

My organisation is currently on Free tier, is this possibly an issue related to Free tier?

I have seen another post where user had this issue, and it was resolved by creating a new project. This did not work for me & is also not a good option to start again as there are many months of work in the existing project.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Seamus - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Do you have any scrum boards in your instance at all? Or would this be the first one?

I tied it in my free instance and projects show up.

What type of project have you created that you are trying to attach it to?

Hi John, thanks for your comment.  There is the default board which was created when the project was created.

It's a Team-managed, software project, I am not sure if that is what you are asking. I can't say if it was a scrum or Kanban project. The project was created months ago & I joined the project this week and my predecessor is no longer contactable unfortunately. Is there a way to check that ?

The bottom left-hand panel of your screen should tell you want kind of project it is.

It says "You're in a team-managed project"

Team-managed projects are self contained and you cannot create additional boards for them.

Oh I see, thanks for info John. Seems like that blocks me from doing what I want.

How viable would it be to migrate all the existing items to a new project in that case ?
