We have a JIRA server (JIRA 6.2) which is running on 2003 windows and we are going to upgrade this server to windows 2008. This is a virtual server and our JIRA is installed on D drive. We can install the windows 2008 on C drive. Can we do the upgrade without migrating the JIRA to another server or without any changes in the JIRA application ?
In theory, you should be able to upgrade without moving anything, as long as you don't change the installation directories.
I'd strongly recommend preparing for a migration though, in case it doesn't work, and always keep a full backup on another machine. At the very least, I would keep a database backup and a copy of the attachments - with those two, you can take a new machine, install an empty 6.2, import the database and copy the attachments and start it up.
