Hey @Joel Young
Associate the stories/tasks of current sprint to the epic. Then you should be able to see the epic progress in insights tab.
What do these words "associate the stories/tasks of the current sprint to the epic" mean? The tasks are already in epics hence the ability for them to be grouped by the epic swim lanes.

Please check epic link field of current sprint's task/stories. If stories/tasks of current sprint is linked to an epic then you should be able to see the epic progress in insights tab.
Please find the doc. for your reference. https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/understand-insights-on-the-board-in-company-managed-projects/

The epic link is populated for tickets in the sprint. Every ticket is in an Epic swim lane. All tickets in the sprint have their Epic set.
The direct page you linked provides descriptive information but not directive information. It doesn't say how to turn it on.
I've followed the directions at: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/manage-insights-in-a-company-managed-project/
Permissions are set (including me as a Single User) and the Board Filter for the Project's Board does have the right "project =" entry.
No changes. Still says "this sprint isn't working towards any epics."

There is no need of turn on epic progress insights, by default it will be enabled. From the screenshot I can understand you're using story points as "estimation statistics". It seems no tasks/stories in the current sprint have story points. Can you please add value to story point field for your tasks/stories then can you please check the epic progress.

That is correct. We aren't using points. Other progress tools can use counts for ticket progress. I guess we can game that by bulk setting all tickets to 1 story point.
I'll give it a try and see what comes.

I enabled Story Points for the tickets and set the Story Point value to 1 for all the tickets and yes, now the insights are shown.
Seems that the Insights shouldn't try and run if Story Points are turned off. Or they should be setable to simply count tickets vs completed tickets.
Thanks for your help.

When you are saying:
you're using story points as "estimation statistics".
Are you hinting that I can set something other than story points as "estimation statistics"?
