Setting Sprint Dates without making it 'Active'

How do I create a future Sprint and set start & End dates without setting the Sprint as 'Active'. I would want to set the Sprint 'Active' and the first day of the Sprint during the Sprint Planning meeting.

My Plan roadmap can then show the Sprint dates correctly.

you can't do this today. You might watch/vote for this issue - JSWSERVER-7740

you may be able to do this thru the api base upon my brief research in the Community. If interested in that approach I encourage you to search the Community and reading what others are saying.
