Setting transitions to bypass workflow steps

I am using JIRA to track operational "projects" such as audits or road maps or implementing off the shelf tools.

The workflow selected has more statuses than I want to use.  Is there a way to write a filter or config that would allow the user to see fewer options?

  • Backlog
  • understood
  • Selected for Development
  • In Progress
  • Done
  • Abandoned

FYI - If I could create a new workflow (I cannot, I must select from a list of options) I would create the following:  backlog > To Do (or Ready) > In Progress > Done with an option of Reopened.

HI @andrea_crawford ,

The short answer is that you can't make those changes with a filter. A "config" would be one of either editing the existing workflow or (as you note you can't) making one with the statuses you cite.

If, however, you can edit the existing workflow, there is no reason not to add additional transitions that leap straight from one status to another that is usually more than one serial step down the line. You can also do things like add conditions so that only a specific group or some such is able to make said "skip" transitions.

As such, all the thing you want to do are possible either with a new workflow or changes to existing. I have many cases in my instance where there are rather more statuses than some issues need to run through while still allowing for a full cycle through all states for something.
