Soňa Přílučíková August 19, 2021

Hello all,

I need your help. We have field Platform and this field we need for issues Bug and Sub-bug mandatory and for the rest of issues optional cross all projects. I do not now, how to set it.

Thank you

You can create a separate workflow for your bug and sub-bug and use the field required Validator in one or more transitions.

  1. Copy your current workflow
  2. rename your new workflow
  3. Edit the workflow and select the transition where you wish to require the field to be entered, e.g. the initial create transition
  4. Select Validators
  5. Click Add validator
  6. Select Field Required Validator and select the Platform field as your required field
  7. in project settings > workflows, Add workflow and associate to your Bug and Sub-bug issuetypes

Hi Soňa,

Every project has a field configuration scheme which specifies the field configuration for each issue type. Often every issue type has the same field configuration but in your case you will need to change this.

  1. Create a new field configuration (best would be to copy the current one)
  2. Make the Platform field mandatory in this new field configuration
  3. In the field configuration scheme of your project: add the new field configuration you created in step 1 and link it to Bug and Sub-bug
  4. From now on every project using that field configuration scheme will have 1 field configuration for bug/sub-bug and another one for other issue types

Documentation about field configurations can be found here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/configure-a-field-configuration-scheme/
