The project I want to share settings with is not showing in the dropdown list, even though I have been added to it as an Administrator.
Also the template project is company managed and for the new one I want to create I have selected the same project type and company-managed option as well.
I'm a Jira admin and this article only mentions the People settings (which is there) so I don't know what else could prevent me from seeing the project in the dropdown...:
I've tried it again with Browse projects permission assigned to Administrator role and then it DOES work. So it's not just having an administrator role in a project or having the administer project permission - you need to have Browse project permission...
Hi Vicky,
Can you share a screenshot of the Manage Projects page showing the details of the "template project"?
Have you ever been able to use it before?

Hi John,
Which details would you like to see exactly?
Project name / key / lead I would like to keep private :)
Other than that, Manage Projects page only shows "company-managed software" and the three dots to the right. In the project settings itself, these details are also available:
In the people tab, I am specifically mentioned in the project role "Administrators".
In the permissions tab, the Administrators role is assigned to "administer project" permissions.
What the article from Atlassian Support itself doesn't mention is which permissions they assume you have as an administrator. Should you also have "browse project" permission? Because that implies access to the issues IN the project, which I shouldn't have, but I can see/administer the project via the Manage Projects page, so it's weird that I can't select it as a template.

PS: I've been able to use it before but the permissions/roles might have changed after, I can't remember (we are currently migrating so I am setting up a bunch of projects/permissions :-) )

Jira might assume that you can see the issues on the project to be able to create projects based on it. I would try that. Grant that Permission to the Administrator project role and see if that solves it.
