When I stop making an active edit to a ticket, in some instance I still have the lock which prevents others from editing the ticket. After you are done making an active edit:
1. Should the lock automatically get released?
2. Are there instances when a lock will NOT get automatically released?
Could you explain what you are seeing as a result of this "lock"?
Native Jira takes the most simple route for a web application and works off "submit an edit". It doesn't care who has an issue open in a browser, people try to edit in their browser and it changes the issue (unless things are out of date)
When I edit an unlocked ticket (via the edit button), I automatically get the lock which makes sense. However when I submit my edit (via the Update button) or cancel my edit, I still have the lock which is a bit counterintuitive. As a result I have to manually release the lock or others can not edit the issue.
On a related note, if I click on the "Add Comment" button, it still stays "free to edit. Get Lock" which also seems incorrect.

Could you tell us what app you have added to Jira to provide this "lock" function?

"Issue Lock for Jira"
I searched online to see if anyone had reported the same problem with this addon but couldn't find anything.
