How can I manually override edit the Resolution field on an issue without building transitions or scripts or editing screens and all that nonsense?  Shouldn't take more than 90 seconds.

Hello @Brian Oconnell,

Thank you for reaching out.

Per your description, it seems you have an issue that is not properly set with the resolution field, so you would like to edit it or remove its resolution. Is that correct?

The resolution field in Jira is a special field. Explaining better, it is the way your reports and system fields define your issues as resolved.

You can easily edit the resolution of your issue by simply adding the resolution field to the edit issue screens of your project under project settings > Screens, however, I don't recommend that since it will enforce your users to set the resolution field on each transition they performing, even if they are not solved yet, causing even a worse problem.

That being said, the best approach to change a wrong resolution set would be by following the steps in the documentation below:

HowTo: Bulk Clear Resolution

We understand that the process can be a little cumbersome, however, the process above provide you with a workaround to a problem that can be easily avoided. That's why we suggest you check what really caused the wrong resolution to be set, checking if there are any misconfigurations and, if the issue was only resolved when it shouldn't, configure a transition to easily reopen it and clear the value (With the clear resolution post function) when it happens again.
