Simple import of project tasks only disallows other issue types from being added later?

Clarence Koontz June 10, 2024

Hi.  What am I doing wrong here?

If I import a simple project of nothing but tasks, I don't seem to be able to other Issue Types (like bugs or stories) into my imported project later.

I discovered this, when in the Board view of my project --
I click Create.
Click the Issue Type drop-down.
See that only Task is available.

Hello @Clarence Koontz

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

The types of issues you can create in your project depend on the types of issues that you make available to that project.

With what type of project are you working? You can get that information from the Type column on the View All Project page under the Projects menu.

Did the project already exist prior to you executing the import process?

If you are working with a Team Managed project, the Project Administrators can add more issue types to the project.

If you are working with a Company Managed project, the available issue types are defined in an Issue Type Scheme associated with the project. Modifications to the scheme can be done by a Jira Administrator.

Hi Trudy.

Some answers --

Project type: Team-managed business.  (Oh, okay, I see your comment on that.)
No, I created it new -- using the Create Project button from the Projects menu. Then choosing "Import data" at the bottom of the screen (following the prompts from there).

I should have added that -- if I Imported a new project with the issue types of Task, Bug, Story, then I was later able to add those type of issues to my new project.

I see. If you created the Team Managed Business project through the import process, then the only issue types that would be available at the completion of that process is the issue types you included in the imported data. You would need to add more issue types to the project through Project Settings > Issue Types, after completing the import process.

Alright, I see that.

Clicked Project settings.
Clicked Issue types (on the left).
Clicked Add issue types.
(Selected all that I needed -- unfortunately, one at a time -- rather than by checkbox next to each to bring-in at one time. :-))
