Smart Commit commands not working (via github)

Smart Commits are turning up in the "Development" section of related issues, but commands I put in them such as "#resolve" are being completely ignored.

e.g. the commit message says:

amazing fix for this terrible problem

AB-123 #resolve

and the commit shows up in issue AB-123's 'Development' section but the issue is not marked as resolved.

The email address on the commit as shown by 'git log' is identical to that of my Jira login.

I have tried checking to see if Smart Commit commands are enabled, but Atlassian's instructions for this are wrong and I cannot find where this option exists, if it does exist.

Thanks for that link. My email address is correct and the email address in Github is not marked as "private", which just leaves the "enable smart commits" thing, which is what I was referring to above with "Atlassian's instructions for this are wrong".

They say "Settings > Products > DVCS accounts" which is fine, and then "Click ... for the account" or "Check the Smart Commits option for a repository" but neither of those options exist.

Alternatively it says "Jira Select Application Links in the left menu" then "Click Smart Commits for the application" but again, no such option exists.
